Machan’s Marina has a long and proud family history of shipwrights.

Harry Machan (senior) served his time at The Adelaide Steamship Company in Balmain back in the 1940’s. Harry had three sons and each of them followed their father in his craftsmanship, dedication and good humour. Harry (junior) served his time at Goat Island with the Maritime Services Board, Russell was apprenticed with Vickers Cockatoo Island and Rick served his time at Garden Island Naval Dockyard. Harry worked as shipwright and foreman to what was then called Baird’s Boatshed from 1958 until he bought the Marina with his beautiful wife Corrie in 1970, from Hugh and Maddie Baird. Harry and Corrie ran the Marina as a partnership and a lifestyle bringing up their four children.

The Marina is the longest owner operated Marina on the eastern seaboard still going after 37 years. Russell joined to work as a shipwright with his father in 1988. After Harry Machan (senior) passed away in 1998, the Marina was managed by Russell and his mother Corrie. Rick operated Ocean Comfort Boat Brokerage from the Marina for several years.
